Abako Daily is a free mental arithmetic game. Every midnight, four fresh number puzzles, the same for every player in the world. You get six numbers and a target between 15 and 999, and you build the target by combining those numbers with the four operations: add, subtract, multiply, divide. Each number is used at most once. A round takes two to three minutes.
Countdown gives you thirty seconds. NYT Digits had a clock too. This one has none. The wager is simple: without the panic you search for longer and you find more. The day's four puzzles climb in difficulty, from an easy opener up to the boss of the day, gentle on Monday and brutal on Sunday, the way a crossword week hardens as it goes.
In August 2023 The New York Times shut down Digits, its daily numbers game, after 120 puzzles and with no successor. In August 2024 French television cancelled Des chiffres et des lettres after 52 years on air, the show Countdown was adapted from; its daily slot had already gone in September 2022. Meanwhile daily word games multiplied without end. Numbers lost both of their homes. Abako Daily gives them one back.
